Kazushi Ono reveals Scriabin in a new light

In December, Kazushi Ono conducted Brussels Philharmonic in Scriabin's Fifth Symphony, Prométhée – Le poème du feu, in a groundbreaking concert format integrating a light installation and video art by Iranian-German artist Nazanin Fakoor.

The visionary composer scored the symphony to include a 'colour organ' that would reflect the 'colours' of the music, bringing sight and sound together in a synesthetic experience. Fakoor's site-specific light sculpture floated above the orchestra, responding to the shifting harmonies, catching the light and video projections, and reflecting around concert hall.

The performance also included Claude Debussy’s La Mer, counterbalancing the fire and energy of Scriabin with the fluid calm of Debussy.

The event brought to life Scriabin's visionary masterpiece, a work rarely performed with its intended visual component, reinventing the concert hall as a multi-dimensional, multi-sensory space.
